Zone 3 : Vedokhilo Dharmamoolam – Veda is the source of all Dharma (Right Conduct)

Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the avatar of our times has played an important role in laying a strong foundation in Vedic learning and bring awareness of Vedas as a source of Dharma across the world. He has stated that Dharma is based on Vedas. If Dharma collapses, the universe may collapse and if the universe collapses, Dharma may collapse. But, the foundation, that is the Veda remains intact. However, if the Vedas collapse, both Dharma and the universe will collapse. So, it is incumbent on all humans to strive to protect the Vedas, for both Dharma and the universe are based upon Vedas.

Swami in a discourse which is recorded by Sri Ghandikota Subrahmanya Sastry has said that the Vedas and Upanishads conceived and developed so many varieties of yajnas and Yagas (sacrifices) to propagate the truth that God is omnipresent and the in dweller of all the living beings. But no useful purpose will be served by mere chanting the Veda mantras. One should partake off the essence of those mantras. Nevertheless, one can experience immense happiness by merely hearing these Veda mantras being chanted. In fact, that nectarine sweetness is there in the very sound of Veda mantras. Veda is the very life-breath of every human being.

Sri Sathya Sai Global Council – Zone 3 countries have endeavoured to bring Veda chanting to all devotees. Members of SSSGC centres in Zone 3 countries are encouraged to chant Vedam at the start of their centre programs. We are aiding members who want to learn mantras by conducting various classes daily at different times and members can reach out to their devotional coordinators to obtain information on classes.

We are proposing to have at least 1000 people chant Rudram leading to Swami’s 100th birthday celebrations. This will give every member across Zone 3 countries the opportunity to learn and chant as one.

Swami in a discourse on 28th September 1987 had exhorted devotees saying “Embodiments of Divine Love! Every individual should take a pledge to nourish the Vedas on right lines. The welfare of the nation and the prosperity of the world are dependent on the Vedas. Within another ten or twenty years, even the few who possess the Vedic knowledge may not remain. Hence, there is urgent need to take concerted measures to provide the resources and the encouragement for the propagation of the Vedic studies”.

In the same discourse, Swami said “Every human being must revere the Vedas. It is the very foundation of life. Every act of daily life has its roots in the Vedas. Whether everyone knows this or not, the Vedas pervade everything. Everyone must regard it as his foremost duty to work for the revival of the Vedas and live the Vedic way of life”.

Over the next two years, the SSSGC Zone 3 devotion teams will be having a series of events including Vedam Chanting, workshops and seminars and guest speakers, to bring awareness of the significance of Vedas.

Let us all be able instruments in Bhagawan Baba’s hands and follow his exhortation to take Vedas to every corner of the world.
